E3 2007: The Big Three

In a last ditch attempt to draw in the Japanese audience, Microsoft will show a few decent looking games from Japanese developers, one of them being Lost Odyssey. It'll be demoed (hopefully, to a good response) and I think it'll be sent back home by way of the Live Marketplace for all the poor, uninvited gamers.

I also wouldn't be surprised one bit if Sakaguchi announced that he was working on something no one has seen before. As far as other Japanese 360 games, both Eternal Sonata and Project Sylpheed are getting decent buzz. And then there's the whole weirdness surrounding Beautiful Katamari: is it 360 exclusive? Is it an XBLA game? A full retail disc? Personally, I think that it will be exclusive for MS, and they'll announce it as a full retail game at their press conference.

Now let's take a look into the crystal ball and see what kind of wild announcements Microsoft might bust out this year. As aforementioned, a new Viva Pinata would thrill me, but it would be a long shot. More likely would be the unveiling of a new Team Ninja game, however, I think we'll be looking at DOA 5 rather than Ninja Gaiden 2. Itagaki and company already have 2 Ninja Gaiden games (Sigma and Dragon Sword) in the pipeline, so they won't be announcing the true sequel yet to avoid cannibalizing their own series.

Everyone's been talking Crimson Skies rumors lately. My guess? I bet it'll happen, but the game will get farmed out to another developer, ala KOTOR 2. And anyone who remembers KOTOR 2 knows that is not good. Let's see... Too Human will be announced as a November/December release, but nothing more than a trailer shown of it. Dyack is too much of a baby to face the public after what happened last year. Lastly, I believe Microsoft will make Live free, simply to take a major talking point away from Sony. Either that, or they'll announce big upgrades (dedicated servers anyone?). And that's all I got for everyone's favorite billion dollar corporation.

Viva 2. Rare, do it now!

Sony

It's not Sony's first party titles that are the biggest games for PS3, but rather the impressive 3rd party franchises they've managed to secure over the years. We all know that Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII will steal the show, if they're shown well; I expect to hear the words "only on the PlayStation 3" a lot when seeing them. Hopefully, we can get a demo of MGS4, but that's wishful thinking. I'm betting on new (incredible) trailers for both, and a demo date released for FFXIII, but they'll stick to the vague, "not this fiscal year" line. However, MGS4 will have a date revealed, and be confirmed to be on track for a 2007 release. Kojima hasn't delayed a game yet and I don't think he'll start now, despite all the rumors we've heard.

Even though the first party isn't the center of attention, Sony still has some serious quality in there to back up their flagship titles. Factor 5's Lair looks utterly phenomenal, so that'll be shown for sure (especially since it's getting close to release, and they'll want to hype it up quickly). There hasn't been a bad Ratchet and Clank game yet, so you can bet Sony's going to be showing that off. I hope we can get some more info on the luscious, yet mysterious White Knight Story, a release date would be fantastic.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will blow everyone's mind with a new demo, and we can only hope to experience the demo-goodness on PSN. Lastly, this is probably the biggest 1st party title currently in the works: LittleBigPlanet, which is going to be a huge focus this year. I'm sure it'll be playable, as well as get some crucial details released, such as when the demo/game hits, and a real announcement that the best user created levels from the demo will be placed on the LBP disc... that would certainly be awesome. Oh, and the two bombs dropped in this press conference? God of War 3 official announcement and teaser, and playable Grand Turismo 5 (a true sequel, none of that GT:HD crap), as well as a firm date for it. Yeah, I went there.

Sony's two biggest titles could easily be the best things at E3.
