Warhound Interview

Home : Games : Articles

With Warhound having in-game money system, in what form will the money be used by players? Is this essentially allowing players to upgrade their characters?
As mentioned before the economy in warhound is essential for the gameplay. The player will earn money for each completed mission as well as for selling the items, weapons and ammunition retrieved from defeated enemies.

The player’s expenses will be entirely up to him to decide. They can invest in the development of their character and pay for the training to acquire new skills or spent most of the money on intelligence that will make the missions easier – satellite maps of the area, specified location of the target, transportation to the near surroundings of the mission objective, air supply of munitions, etc.

The player can also choose to spend the cash on improving their weaponry arsenal. It may be said that the player’s economic strategy will determine the type of their character. He can become an assassin sniper using the dark night as a cover or, on the contrary, a demolition man equipped with all the modern weaponry capable of handling every sentry gun and armed vehicle.

Will Warhound make use of vehicles both in single-player and online multi-player?
The vehicles are a very significant element of the modern warfare so there will also be a special place for them in the game. We are planning to have lots of those. From light jeeps, quads and civilian cars to speedboats, trucks, armored vehicles, tanks and choppers. All of them in different types and armors.

In case of the single-player mode we want to place the vehicles in different terrains veru accurately. There is a difference between vehicles used by the military in the former Yugoslavia region and those used by the African guerilla. We want to be true in showing those differences.

For the multiplayer mode our selection of vehicles is based on the best balance of gameplay experience on a given level. We believe the balance to be the key here.

Do you have any immediate plans to use the Xbox Live Marketplace as a vital tool for delivering content? If so, what kind of content do you anticipate providing?
Xbox Live Marketplace is a special place for Xbox 360 owners. They can download lots of stuff and get familiar with most of the upcoming titles. Especially playable game demos give such opportunities. Of course we will try to deliver as much of such content as possible, but it depends mostly on the publisher.

How do you view the competition in the FPS genre? Do you find that creating a FPS title is tougher than creating another genre due to the increased popularity of FPS here in the United States?
There are a lot of FPS games out there and we like playing them all. Almost every FPS has some unique features which is great. I'm not surprised that the FPS genre is popular. First person perspective gives the player an opportunity to step into the main character’s shoes and identify with them. You can see through their eyes, hear with their ears and for the time of playing the game be someone else. This type of games is so far closest to being perfect because the player can feel as if they were in the main character’s body.

In your estimation, what do you think the final ESRB rating for the U.S. version will be? What are the chances of a demo on Xbox Live or PC?
We think that ESRB rating will be set as M for Mature just like Call of Juarez. There will be a playable demo for PC and Xbox 360 but it's definitely too early to say when exactly. Game demos appear just before the game release. We have to spend a lot of time developing Warhound.

Drop to your knees!

With the delays in the back of minds of all gamers, what do you think is going to be the final release date for the game?
At the moment there are intensive negotiations with largest publishers. It's up to them to decide when game is going to be released. We are planning to have the production phase completed till Q3 2008.

For the big finale, is there anything else you wish to say about Warhound to the readers?
First of all I would like to invite everyone to visit the official game website http://www.warhoundgame.com. You can find fresh news and all Warhound assets there. I would also like to invite to the Warhound forum, where gamers from all around the world share their ideas and opinions about game. We are using those ideas and we apply them to our game for example by applying first real FPP cover system or expanding arsenal with firearms suggested by players themselves. I encourage people to visit the forum because it's a unique chance to take part in the game development.
