On average, Australians are paying 25% more than Americans for video game software. This blatant rip-off is believed to be a continuation of a time 5 to 6 years ago when one Australian dollar equated to 50 U.S. cents.
Aussie-Nintendo recently launched an investigation into the matter. They contacted Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Activision, EA, Ubisoft, THQ and Atari by way of letters as seen above. Three months passed, and only one company responded - Sony.
Their reply blatantly ignored the questions raised by Aussie-Nintendo, and instead pointed out that consumers in Australia can rent games, or purchase $29.95 titles from the Platinum range for the PlayStation. Thanks a lot Sony for stating the obvious - we won't even mention that those games suffer from the same mark-ups as their full-priced brethren.
Should the ACCC start regulating game prices in Australia? What do you think of game prices in your area?
