UK Retailers See Record-Breaking Quarter

Nearly 18 million games sold in a single quarter.


According to GamesIndustry.biz, the latest figures from Chart-Track reveal that a whopping 17.89 million games (totaling around £418.4 million) were sold between December 30, 2007 and March 29, 2008.

"We are thrilled to see the industry continue to grow at such a rapid rate and videogame sales continuing to rise," said Paul Jackson, director general of ELSPA.

"This period has seen more innovative and family-friendly titles doing well and it is clear that consumers of all ages have been lining up to buy them."
The figure is up by almost a third compared to sales during the same period in 2006/07. Nintendo were reportedly responsible for 37% of the total sales, led by titles such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
