Study: Gamers May Make Better Doctors

Home : News : News Story

While checking your doctor's credentials, you may want to ask him for his gamertag.

A study by Iowa State psychologist Douglas Gentile and Dr. James Rosser, a head of surgery at Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, yielded some very interesting results.

Studying 33 laparoscopic surgeons, the study concludes those who played video games were a whopping 27 percent faster at advanced surgical procedures than their counterparts. Not only were the gamers faster, they made 37 percent fewer errors.

Their study, published in the 2007 Archives of Surgery, also said gamer doctors were better at suturing. That's no doubt due to the hand dexterity necessary to game well. This is fascinating stuff, folks. The next step is getting medical schools to spring for PS3s.
