The Final Fantasy-maker looks to add ninjas and beach volleyball babes to its game catalogue.
Square Enix, strong in role-playing games but with virtually no offerings in fighting or adventure games, may change that by merging with Tecmo. The Wall Street Journal reports that on Friday Square submitted a $102 million tender offer for the troubled publisher of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.
In addition to broadening Square's game offerings, acquiring Tecmo would increase Square's presence in the U.S. and Europe. These are tough times at Tecmo, with president Yoshimi Yashuda resigning and the former employees of Team Ninja filing suit against the company for unpaid overtime.
We'll hear something about this soon as the deadline for Tecmo to accept Square's offer is Sept. 4.
