Call for Heroes: Pompolic Wars

Things got a bit better with the Amazon, once I picked up a bow. There's no option to block attacks, and circle-strafing melee attacks gets old fast. Of course, ranged attacks and strafing are both useless against the monsters that toss seeking fireballs. The sluggish movement and attack don't help, either. The Amazon and Warrior move across the ground faster than their movement animation suggests, creating a disconcerting gliding effect, which is also present in enemies to a certain extent. Jumping is a useful option, but the characters look stiff and awkward while doing it.

All detail settings to low.

There's a half-assed attempt at incorporating RPG elements with an experience/upgrade system, which allows you to upgrade one of three attributes: Health, Strength or Armor. I think they should either give the player more options or just scrap it altogether and make stat leveling automatic, because players attracted by the "RPG elements" on the box are in for disappointment.

All detail settings to high. Biggest difference: reduction to an unplayable framerate.

I'm not sure how close the preview build provided is to the final product, due out in mid-June. If Quotix can manage to improve the framerate issue, fix the awkward animations and deepen the RPG elements, they'll have on their hands a game that... well, honestly, still probably won't be much fun. I'm all for indie developers and budget titles, but Quotix seems to have forgotten that the traditional strengths of small development groups is fun and immersive gameplay, not graphics. Call for Heroes is the kind of game you get when you try to make a bland but pretty big-studio game, without the big studio budget. I still don't understand how they managed to get this game published on the Wii.
