If all goes well, we should have a great turn-based galactic conquest game on our hands.
What's so special? Robust diplomatic, economic, and technological options for virtual galactic conquerers. Here comes another preview down the pipeline. Welcome to Stardock Entertainment's new game under construction, Galactic Civilizations II: Dreadlords.
GC II is the sequel to the 2003 turn-based game. This game is a single player turn-based experience that gives the player the option to play as a civilization expanding its way into a dangerous galaxy. Hello turn-based space game, haven't seen you in a while. The story deals with the aftermath of an ancient evil civilization called the Dreadlords, hence the title.
I had a chance to play the alpha build of the game and had fun tinkering with my ships. Building your ships and the game interface are the only things that have been completed thus far. The player starts off with basic ships, but the industrious player can build ships to their play style.
The graphics are decent for a small developer, it's not “Homeworld” graphics though. Gamer's have a lot of camera view choices, plenty of options to survey the galaxy you want to conquer.
If all the preview options at alpha stage are functional at release, there will be robust diplomatic, economic, and technological options for virtual galactic conquerers. If Stardock slaps a good price point and wraps up all their features, we should have a great turn-based galactic conquest game on our hands.
