One thing is for certain, if Bet on Soldier can deliver half of what they promise, it could be one of the breakout hits of the year.

What's so special? Bet on Soldier’s unique betting system breathes new air into an old cliché. Multiplayer seem promising.

Developer track record: Bet on Soldier will be Klytoon's biggest release yet, and could very well prove to be one of the deciding factors in their future.

The world is at war, not nations, but corporations as well. In the future combat is now cheap entertainment. Mercenaries fight for money. Sounds familiar don’t it? Well, this is the synopsis of Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport, which offers a unique spin on an old concept. Bet on Soldier is a new First Person Shooter from Klytoon a French Development team - their biggest project to date.

The story is a little on the dramatic side for the type of gameplay. Bet on Soldier exists in a world where war is ongoing. Best of all, it’s all controlled by corporations. To them, war is big money. Ruling corporations, more powerful than any government, have seen the money making opportunity that war can offer. With profit forefront in their minds they have kept the conflict going to the point where most of the population is reliant on the war for jobs and income.

If people are not fighting on the battlefields they are working the munitions factories. Enter Nolan Davenport, a Merc with a shady past, who was living the good life until his wife was killed. Nolan does not know who or why, the only clue he has to go on is that it had something to do with the current BoS champions, The Boryenkas Brothers.

Although the story, seems engrossing the real meat on this sandwich is going to be the gameplay. The game’s single player offers all the goodness we have been used to in FPS. The battles are very epic and engrossing. But what makes Bet on Soldier unique from its counterparts is its elaborate betting system. At the beginning of every mission you will select your weapon, armor and teammates of choice. But these luxuries don’t come cheap.

Everything you acquire costs money. You gain money by betting and wining missions and matches against your chosen enemy. If Unreal Tournament and Halo had a love child, Bet on Soldier would be their dirty little secret. Bet on Soldier’s secret weapon will be its KT engine which took over six years to develop. KT engine gives BoS incredible physics as well as very advance AI. Enemies will use cover hide behind shields and use teamwork to take you down. Good thing your allies’ AI is just as resourceful. Your partners will come to your rescue and shield you and even repair you armor.

Multiplayer has been kept a little secret, seeing as there was no playable version of multiplayer or viewable one at that. What we do know is that BoS plans to fully utilize their betting system into multiplayer. Players will have to team up in order to gain money, and money is everything.

Quickest way to gain money is through Bet on Soldier matches. To be able to initiate Bet on Soldier matches your team has to take control of terminals and hack into them. Then your team will have to build up the required number of tickets to be able to initiate one on one duels. While one man battles to win a Bet on Soldier duel the rest of the team have to defend their terminal in order to be able to initiate further match ups. Bet on Soldier promises to have a unique mix of squad and one on one type gameplay for gamers to enjoy.

At this point I am still skeptical about Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport. Singleplayer, though with its fair share of bugs, was still enjoyable and has great promise. But from it being this close to release and not seeing a multiplayer (not even a screenshot) makes one wonder if they have any multiplayer at all.

One thing is for certain, if Bet on Soldier can deliver half of what they promise, it could be one of the breakout hits of the year. Until then enjoy the single player demo. Opening bids will start later this September.
