What's so special? For those who loved the original Twisted Metal games but who want something more than simply driving around and blowing up enemy cars, Hard Truck Apocalypse looks to be right up your alley.Buka Entertainment’s Hard Truck Apocalypse is shaping up to be a title to watch. Based on the playable demo provided to us, HTA is an action/driving/RPG based in a post apocalyptic world. Think Twisted Metal meets The Road Warrior to get an idea of the beautiful vehicular mayhem that this game has to offer.
In the finished game players will choose from only five different types of trucks, but can trick them out with over thirty weapons and various upgrades to square them off against multiple types of enemies from general infantry to awesome battle trucks and killer robots.
Most remarkable about the driving action is the game’s physics engine which supplies incredible realism in driving and a real sense of speed and movement. Incredible special effects and realistic damage models assist the general blowing-uppery and turning sleek bastions of power into twisted, steaming hulks of useless steel. It’s sure to satiate nearly anyone’s vehicular blood lust.
Setting the game apart from it’s obvious Twisted Metal influences are the RPG elements which have players visiting over fifty towns and settlements, exploring the remnants of the old world to discover what happened to bring about this post-apocalyptic one, making friends and enemies, and buying/selling/trading goods to get that next all-important upgrade.
For those who loved the original Twisted Metal games (for my money TM2 on the PSone is still the best of that bunch) but who want something more than simply driving around and blowing up enemy cars, Hard Truck Apocalypse looks to be right up your alley. The completed game should be available soon and it has definitely piqued our interest.
