The game will feature more than 20 playable characters, and we will bring you more details on the game during E3.

The X-Men had been through numerous fighting games and side-scrolling adventures but amazingly, no dungeon crawlers until Raven Software brought us the critically acclaimed Legends franchise. Now they’re calling on the whole of Marvel’s story for a new RPG that promises to take players to the far reaches of the House of Ideas.

Since the game marks sweeping changes to the franchise, the name is now changed as well. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance will feature the prerequisite fan faves like Spider-Man and Wolverine as well as lesser known but still iconic characters like Dr. Strange and the Mighty Thor.

Comic scribe C.B. Cebulski, noted for his work on numerous X-Men and Spider-Man titles, will pen the story. Arch villain Dr. Doom has gathered several of his rowdy friends for some good old-fashioned world conquest and a coalition of Marvel’s greatest heroes forms to stop their nefarious plans.

Raven said the game will feature more than 20 playable characters and in keeping with Legends’ history there will surely be some unlockable costumes and characters as well. The game will retain one of Legends’ most popular features: bonuses for playing with combinations of established superteams. Players will also be able to create and name their own super rosters. So if you think Wolverine, Thor and Dr. Strange would be the greatest team ever assembled, go for it.
