This thing took me two days on a high speed connection and that was using a P2P service that downloads from multiple sources at once. Attempting it from Sierra’s own FTP was an abysmal experience that crashed my system more than once, forcing me to turn to Xfire. (If only he had tried downloading it from GWN, it would have been done in a couple hours at most - Editor). All things considered, those are minor complaints, especially for a free game of this caliber.
Why wasn’t this sort of multiplayer included in the original release of F.E.A.R.? We may never know, but I’d say that Sierra has more than made up for it. While it certainly isn’t the only free game out there (BOTS! is a good example of a totally free to play game from a major publisher – but it is supported by in game ads and microtransactions), it’s definitely the most ambitious. And if this release encourages people to go buy the single player game, good for them.
