Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

The one major new feature to be found in Tiger Woods 07 is the Team Tour Mode. In Team Tour Mode, you start out solo, but when you beat a golfer, you have the opportunity to add that golfer to your team. Your ultimate goal is to build a team of four in an attempt to defeat Tiger Woods and his team. Again, though, it appears that PC owners also got screwed in Team Tour mode when compared to the other versions. On the PS2 and Xbox, you can upgrade your team mates stats after a win. On the PC version, again for reasons known only to EA, you cannot improve your teammates at all. You can replace them with other golfers if you want, but the ability to make your teammates better after each win was inexplicably removed from the PC version.

Granted, it's not all bad, and I would be a pretty lousy reviewer if I didn't at least mention the positives about Tiger Woods 07. The Game Face feature returns, and remains one of if not the best character creation tools ever seen in a video game. Even after initially creating your character, you can always go back and add new clothes, hats, tattoos, and change golf clubs if you so desire. There are a wide variety of swing controls to choose from.

The best is the TrueSwing method, where you move your mouse back and forth, imitating your golfers swing in the game. This is a far better method than anything ProStroke Golf offers. To help improve your swing, a TrueSwing Analyzer appears after every shot, letting you know how the speed, impact, club path, and tempo of your swing was. If you don't like TrueSwing, you can choose from the more traditional 3-click or 2-click swings (think Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour). New to this year's title is the Risk Meter, which shows how much risk is involved before you take your shot, like the chance the ball will wind up out of bounds or in the water.

There's nothing sexier than a guy in a skirt, wearing a pirate hat and cowboy boots.

There is a wide variety of game types to choose from, including stroke play, match play, skins, stableford, alternate shot, scramble, and four-ball. Two new team-based game types have been added, greensome and bloodsome. In greensome, after each member of your team takes their first shot, you get to choose which lie you'll use (you'll only use one). In bloodsome, your opponent gets to choose for you. All of these game types are available in either Online or Lan multiplayer, complete with Tournaments, stat-tracking, and Leaderboards. Like all EA games, there is some lag online, but not enough to make it unplayable. New to this year's Online mode is ESPN intergration, which means you'll see a ticker when online that gives scores and other sports-related news.

In the end, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 remains largely a disapointment. The only new feature worth mentioning is the Team Tour Mode. If you have Tiger Woods 06, there is really no need to get Tiger Woods 07. The graphics are largely the same as last year, the commentary has been recycled from three years ago, and to make it all worse, the PC version is missing 9 courses and several other features that made it into the PS2 and Xbox versions. If for some reason you absolutely have to have a new Tiger Woods game, pick up either the PS2 or Xbox version instead of the PC version.

Highs
Multiple choices for swing controls, all of which are easy and fun to use; Game Face feature is the deepest and best character creation tool in any video game; Team Tour Mode is a nice addition.

Lows
PC version is missing several courses and game modes found in the console versions; other than Team Tour, nothing is really new; no course editor to help offset the missing courses.

Final Verdict
Don't misunderstand me, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 is a good game, and it is certainly better than any other golf game available on the PC, although by looking at the competition, that's not really saying a whole lot. This game gets a low rating because it is basically the same game as last year. To top it all off, there is less content in the PC version than the other versions. Like it or not, agree with me or not, but EA continues to prove my point that they just don't care about their customers. If you'll notice, all of the positives I mentioned earlier with the exception of Team Tour are from last year's game. EA may be content releasing the same game every year, but that doesn't mean you should be content with buying the same game every year. If you've never played the Tiger Woods series before, this is a good place to start, but for all others, particularly owners of Tiger Woods 06 who were thinking of picking up the PC version this year, don't waste your time.
