The handling in United is pretty much the same as in the previous TrackMania games - namely fast and loose. You are not going to see realism, of any kind, anywhere in United. Cars swerve and careen all over the place, make pinpoint turns that defy all reason, accelerate to speeds unknown to even the most creatively tuned F1 racer, and jump chasms that would make Evil Knievel's exploits seem like an afternoon game of hopscotch.

So, yeah, realism is not the order of the day in United. Some might see that as an inferior feature in United, but it actually adds a bit of challenge to the game. The very fact that these cars are so freakishly agile means that mastering them takes you a bit of time, to get used to how different cars are going to handle a sharp turn or react to a mile long jump from platform to platform. These cars are cartoonish, but they can still get away from you. Only in United, instead of spinning out into a field of grass like in a racing simulator, you can expect go flying off an embankment into a pool of water, or slamming into a pylon under a stretch of track.
And if you get tired of all the single player game has to offer, (which should take a while since there are about 200 different tracks to enjoy) there is always the amazing track editor, which features more that 1000 different track pieces that can be arranged into a seemingly endless variety of different tracks. It really is incredible to see what can be achieved with this editor. Tracks of incredible complexity and variety are being created right now by United fans all over the world.

Many of these custom tracks are available in United's limited multiplayer as well. We say limited, because the multiplayer does not really function like one might expect. You do not race your fellow online players per se, although you are in competition with them to achieve the best time. With most tracks, your main goal is to figure out the puzzle/track faster than the others around you who are doing the same. This creates a kind of disconnected game play, where the presence of other gamers means very little overall. You are your only real competition in the multiplayer game, which seems a bit pointless.
