OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

As an interesting aside, the AI traffic actually use their turn signals when changing lanes. The sad thing is that’s arguably the coolest thing about OutRun 2006. There is also Heart Attack mode, where the object is not to pass through as many McDonald’s drive-thru’s en route to a massive coronary as the title would suggest, but instead you have to complete mini-challenges assigned to you by your girlfriend to try and impress her, like passing cars and drifting more. Rocket science, it ain’t. The game’s main mode, Coast 2 Coast, is basically just a combination of the the OutRun and Heart Attack modes.

It should be noted that the AI racers in this game can be kind of annoying. If you attempt to hit one from behind in order to spin him out into a wall, it’s not going to happen. Sure, hitting them from behind makes them spin, but the AI drivers are so good that not only are the able to recover from the spin to face the right direction every time without hitting anything, but they also gain a small speed boost as well.

It’s also worth mentioning that the game uses that super-annoying ‘rubber-band’ AI logic that ensures that no matter how well you race, an AI car is always right behind you, waiting for you to make the one tiny little mistake so they can overtake you an win the race. At the very least, if you are going to have this ‘rubber-band’ AI, at least make it an option so I can turn it off if I want to. Alas, that is not the case with OutRun 2006.
